Victoria - State Theatre

State Theatre, Melbourne

Now the Forum Melbourne, the State Theatre was built in 1929 in the Moorish Revival style. It held live theatre with a large Wurlitzer organ until 1963, when it was converted to a cinema.

"Forum one & two" happened in 1981, when the erstwhile cinema was de-converted to live theatre again, with an upstairs and a downstairs performatorium. The 1927 Masonic Club Building is adjacent to the west.

The ornate building is adorned with many faces toward the front, 4 of which appear to be lions, 8 of which are gargoyles, and the rest of which are tiny and angry.

Spicy details from the clock tower dome.

Other various architectural tops and bottoms. Tee-hee-hee.
