Victoria - London Arch/The Arch

London Arch and The Arch

These two arches can be found along the Great Ocean Road west of Port Campbell.
London Arch

From left to right. London Arch is left-center in the 2nd photo. What makes this arch so Londony?

This photo doesn't tell you the answer, but this caption does. Until 1990, this was London Bridge. The arch on what's now an island had a skinny land bridge back to the bluff to my left. That skinny bridge, which connected the two rock faces you see separated by water here, collapsed as eroded rock features do, leaving two tourists on the island to die. Just kidding, they were rescued. Had you going there.

From the east end of the London Arch beach, look west and you can see a finger of land jutting out at The Grotto, another natural arch. Check it out at the link at bottom.
The Arch

Same as before, from left to right, looking toward the spit of land that separates The Arch from London Arch (which actually juts off of the far side of this spit). There are a lot of arches along the Great Ocean Road. All of the other ones have different names, so I guess they ran out by the time they got here. If you need a name, I suggest Alps' Arch.

Looking back around to my right at the short cliffs.

Shifting my vantage point for another look down.
