Texas/Arkansas - Texarkana - State Line Ave.

State Line Avenue, Texarkana

The Bi-State Justice Center, looking north from Pine St. in the first photo and south from State Line Ave. in the others. Home to the combined law enforcement for both halves of Texarkana, it sits directly on the state line at the south end of State Line Ave. It's not a pretty building, but its function is unique. Is it just me, or shouldn't the American flag be right on the state line, with the Arkansas state flag on its own side of the border?

The Offenhauser Building, now the Museum of Regional History, in the triangle formed by Pine St. and 3rd St. on the Texas side of State Line Ave.

Passing the Flatiron-esque Rialto Building on the left between 3rd and 4th Streets. It's now improperly labeled the Harrell Building.

On the right side of the street north of 4th St. This building once did a lot more than it does now, certainly on the second floor.

At that time, stenciled on the sidewalk landing in front of that building. That's how you know it's on the Arkansas side.

Perhaps the best use I've ever made of the sun, at the First United Methodist Church (in Texas).

North and south views of St. James Church (Anglican, also in Texas) to the southwest of the Post Office building in the middle of the road.

The WWI Memorial is also on that side. See the Post Office/Courthouse link below for more photos of it and of course that big building on the state line.

State Line Ave. traffic heading north ends up briefly on an extension of Wood St. in Arkansas to get around the Post Office building. This house is on the right.

This non-working fountain is on the northeast corner of 7th Street, US 67/71/82. After this, State Line Ave. is US 71 (northbound only for a block, but if you care about that distinction, you should be on the roads pages linked below).

Seen on the Texas side as I continue north.

Not sure what Jim Bowie has to do with Texarkana, but up he went in 1936. (Okay, the Texas side is in Bowie County, and this is in Texas.) Teehee, you can see his crack in the last photo. Who sculpts a butt, anyway?

Old stuff in Arkansas as I head north out of downtown.
