Tasmania - Cataract Gorge - N. of First Basin

Cataract Gorge north of First Basin

Following the South Esk River north out of First Basin. It wasn't raining, but I'll claim my prize.

Looking back south at First Basin.

E.

Looking back at the path up to E. With the gorge walls so sheer, many parts of the path were on structure.

Panning from south to north to get myself headed back in the right direction. Just like the southern half of the gorge, there is a narrow rapids section in the northern half.

Something is growing in the cliffs of the east wall. It's either hydrangeas or red valerian, but since I spotted both in the gorge, I can't narrow it down.

Sup, dog. From any other vantage point, it's just a boring rock.

Coming out of the rapids with a straightaway to King's Bridge.

Speaking of hydrangeas, the mixed pink and white colours give this away. Shall I enter the cave? It might be a tight squeeze.

A look back at the rapids I just passed.

Panning back through east to north.

Every time I look east at the gorge cliffs, I end up getting sucked back into looking south at the rapids again.

A very different perspective of the rapids, from high above the east face of the gorge.

One more eastward cliffs view.

One more southward river view, this from King's Bridge.

Westward views from where I started back south on the east side of the gorge. The west face is quite verdant in the northern reaches of Cataract Gorge.

Finally, northward views from atop the east side of the gorge, looking well beyond Launceston to the end of the rainbow at Mount Arthur. Look at that, this page started and ended with a rainbow. Aren't we lucky.
