Saskatoon

The Bessborough Hotel must be the only interesting building in Saskatoon, because all of my photos managed to be of it. It was born in 1928 of an idea for Saskatoon to have CN compete with the new (1926) Canadian Pacific hotel in Regina. Construction started in 1930 and finished in 1932, but if you know your history, that wasn't exactly the best time to be building a hotel, so it didn't admit a guest until 1935. The Bessborough is still named as such and still a hotel to this day.

I found another interesting building while traveling east on 20th Street (at Q Street), but it turned out to be the Bessborough again.

Larger-scale details include a chimney (I think), window peaks, and a standalone clock tower just north of the riverfront building.

Window details from left (north) to right (south) show that there's a different animal under each one.

Details around the door area include a lion and unicorn (Canadian symbols deriving from the British coat of arms) guarding, a seahorse and a dragon (or two dragons, or two angry seahorses) on either side, and a quintessentially 1930s awning.
