Adelaide - North Terrace

This monument is on the southeast corner of North and East Terraces.

The 1877 Botanic Hotel is on the southwest corner, and the 1868 East End Market Hotel (with its Buildings) is just to its left down East Terrace.

The 19th century Royal Adelaide Hospital building is on the northeast corner of Frome Road. Brookman Hall, part of the University of South Australia and built in 1903, is on the northwest corner.

The 1925 Masonic building is on the south side of North Terrace. The 1936 Bonython Hall (great hall for the University of Adelaide) is on the north side.

Another view of Bonython Hall (right) and the 1900 Elder Hall (left).

The 1850 Scots Church on the southwest corner of Pulteney Street. The last photo looks north on Pulteney.

Security House was built in 1926 as Kelvin House, incorporating early elements of Art Deco style.

Along the north side of North Terrace, 2 photos each: 1882 Mitchell Building (University of Adelaide), 1900 art gallery, 1915 east wing of the South Australian Museum among the jacaranda. The museum had been planned out in the 1870s and slowly built since then, so the style predates the opening year.

Here are a pair of G&R Wills & Co. buildings on the south side. The first building is older by some unknown amount, but the second one was their warehouse built in 1878.

The Edward VII statue is in front of the South Australian Institute Building, built in 1860 as a cultural centre. Did you know he was an emperor? The "British Empire" wasn't just a term, it was legal in India. Also that's quite a statue for only ruling 9 years.

The 1914 Gawler Chambers were built for the South Australian Company, which was the principal early developer of South Australia.

The National War Memorial on the northwest corner of Kintore Avenue reads, "To perpetuate the courage, loyalty, and sacrifice of those who served in the Great War 1914–1918". Click on the first photo for a closeup.

The 1863 club house for the Adelaide Club is at 205 North Terrace on the southeast side of King William Street/Road. The South African (2nd Boer) War equestrian statue is on the northeast corner. The SA Parliament House is on the northwest corner, built starting in 1874 but with funding issues for over 60 years.
