New Jersey - Penns Grove

Penns Grove

Photos are all along Main Street, the old main route through town (US Route 40).

Two former businesses sitting catty-corner at Broad Street (the other old main route through town, US Route 130). The first is on the northwest corner, the second on the southeast, which I know to have once been a bank. It has intended to become a cafe for the better part of two decades but is yet unsuccessful at having anything other than nice ornamentation.

This classic stone building is between Penn Street and Oak Street on the south side, and the ornamentation belongs to the next building over.

You'll see JB as you turn onto Delaware Avenue from the end of Main Street. I will say that most Penns Grove houses are in fact occupied and maintained, but the most interesting buildings tend to not be.

Things get really interesting right behind the JB house. This may look like an old stone building with an old lantern from the front, but looks can be deceiving...

There's no "there" there! Behind that façade is just a few walls and not much else. The second photo looks up from the shore of the Delaware River just north of the abandoned end of Main Street - you can see more of that at the Roads link below.
