New Jersey - New Hampton

New Hampton

Photos follow Musconetcong River Road (Hunterdon County Route 645) from east to west through this historic section of Lebanon Township near regular Hampton.

Before entering the village, the 1825 New Hampton Schoolhouse now houses the Township of Lebanon Museum at New Hampton.

A pair of houses on the south side of the road, the latter of which dates circa 1862.

On the north side we have the Dusenbery stone houses, belonging to a pair of people by that name, dating to 1820 and 1839 respectively.

Of course, those are across from their father's house, the 1790 Dusenberry Mansion (#40 for address reference). Like Tonnel(l)e, this is a name whose spelling has historically varied.

The 1810 Bowlby House is listed as an abandoned plank house in about this spot, on the south side leaving the village, so this may be the one - sure seems that old.

One more functional old building before we fully exit New Hampton, the 1850 Union Hotel and New Hampton General Store. From what I read, those may be the simultaneous uses of the second and first levels respectively, as opposed to one taking over the other.

Bonus ruins west of the village along the south side of the road. This isn't listed as part of New Hampton and I get the impression it was something like a gas station garage from the configuration of the foundation that's left. Still cool.
