Louisiana - Ponchatoula

Ponchatoula

Looking right from SW Railroad Ave. (former US 51, now the Business across the railroad tracks along Pine St. (LA Highway 22).

The downtown commercial district on W. Pine St. is on the National Register of Historic Places and in the National Park Service. It was built during the 1900s and 1910s when the town, pillaged during the Civil War, resurged on the strength of local strawberries. The town now hosts a strawberry festival and has escaped the economic fate of so many other Southern small towns, especially those bypassed by Interstates (in this case, I-55).

St. Joseph Cathedral at W. Pine and 7th St., leaving town on Highway 22.
