Iowa - Middle Amana

Middle Amana

Heading west from the tourist center of Amana, the first sight worth noting in Middle Amana is the factory (and headquarters) that makes the area famous.

The residences generally start at County Highway W22, known locally as 27th Avenue.

Continuing west a block to 26th Avenue. The brick buildings are original, the wooden ones somewhat newer.

Circling around to J Street and heading east to 27th Avenue.

Back down to Highway 220.

As I head west past 26th Avenue, there's another typical Amana brick house on the left, and then the former high school on the right. The first building was built in 1865, but the high school didn't start operating as such until the 1935 expansion. Everyone now goes to a bigger high school on US Highway 6, outside of the little dominion of the Colonies.

Heading west out of town toward High Amana.
