British Columbia - Highway 17

Highway 17

This is the new northeastern end of the highway in eastern Surrey, and I am looking north across Coquitlam at Coquitlam Mountain, Golden Ears, and Mt Crickmer, panning from left to right.

The sun wants to rise, but I want it to stay just below the horizon as I pan across the Salish Sea from south (various isles such as Saturna and Valdes Islands) to north (across Vancouver to the North Shore Mountains).

Heading down the causeway to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, Galiano Island is straight ahead across the Strait of Georgia and Salt Spring Island is behind it (last photo).

Different views of Saturna Island to the south, arranged from east to west. The first photo includes Tumbo Island (in front of the eastern end of Saturna) and the last photo includes Samuel Island (just west of Saturna) and some background fog.

Mayne Island, one I haven't shown you yet, is between Saturna and Galiano Islands to the southwest.

Looking back north, diagonally across the Global Container Terminal causeway, I can still see the North Shore Mountains 40 kilometres away.

Taking the ferry to Vancouver Island, the Congregation Emanu-El synagogue is near the southern end of Highway 17 along Blanshard Street. See the Victoria page for more photos.
