Hardly had I turned onto Belknap St. from Hammond Ave. when I spied the Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge over the St. Louis River, also known as the Bong Bridge. Gives new meaning to "smoke on the water."


The plus side of US 2 in Superior is ancient button copy. The Bong Bridge opened in 1985 so these signs must date to right around then. Sadly, this is now a roundabout instead of an interchange.


Riding the Bong Bridge to the Minnesota state line at the St. Louis River shipping channel, with a view to the south at the railroad Oliver Bridge.
