US 10 construction west of Auburndale

All photos were taken westbound.

As I said at the bottom of my "Auburndale and east" construction page, part of the US 10 expressway west of Auburndale overlays part of the old US 10, which necessitated routing traffic onto the partially completed expressway (WB lanes) in April 2012. But even in October 2011, there was still a need to use a small piece of future US 10 WB for staging, with a temporary roadway to boot as the existing road is obliterated (photos 4-6). In the last photo (7), the future lanes merge into that temporary roadway (built outside the freeway to allow smooth concrete pouring).

Six months later, US 10 is on the WB expressway lanes for that entire stretch. I'm taking pains not to call it a freeway, because you can see some at-grade intersections along the way. Anything beyond a county highway gets an interchange, though, and there are no driveways.

While I'm still in 2012, here's a temporary roadway near CTH T south of Hewitt. This is the only place west of Auburndale where the old road is south of the expressway, and US 10 (also WIS 13, now, thanks to a reroute) quickly comes back to the path of the old road, which is why there's a temporary connection snaking to the north from my vantage point (on now-former US 10) into the future WB lanes. There's just no more old road after CTH T.

Back to October 2011, with a hint at the future reroute of WIS 13 NB, grading for the future EB lanes (not needed for staging, and thus lagging in time), and then to where the future WB lanes diverge from the old road once more west of Stadt Rd. Until they're paved, the dirt EB lanes apparently make a great horse riding trail.

The same progression in April 2012, with the EB lanes completed, a more permanent cover for the WIS 13 sign (soon to be removed anyway, so why bother?), and now some concrete pavement for the split of the WB lanes.

US 10 curves away to the south for the future interchange with Veterans Parkway (where WIS 13 will leave to head into Marshfield) and CTH A, and a temporary roadway connects back into the old US 10 alignment (foreground).

A look back east at the expressway cutting off US 10 (now Heritage Dr.).

Looking southwest at the Washington Ave. overpass of US 10, the last one before it hits Central Ave. (then WIS 13, now WIS 80).

US 10 WB (now Heritage Dr.) meets Central Ave., WIS 13 (now WIS 80), and turns left at this intersection (now a roundabout). Almost no one is using Heritage Drive anymore, though. Stupid roundabouts.

Skipping the WIS 13 concurrency (see big link below), and another pair of stupid roundabouts, there's just a little bit of construction to improve US 10 west of the southern WIS 13 (now 80) junction.
