Virginia Roads - Frederick-Clarke SR 723/Old US 50

, Frederick-Clarke Counties - Former US 50

All photos are westbound.

The last thing I'd expect on a secondary route is a cutout shield, but then again, this is a former US highway, so it gets some respect (including a state highway multiplex).

In Millwood, past VA 255. I do not believe the bird or birds at the top of the steeple are part of the weathervane.

On to Boyce.

The first bridge crosses Opequon Creek from Clarke County into Frederick County, and the second one crosses Buffalo Lick Run shortly before SR 723, one of the rare secondary routes to carry its number across the county line, comes to an end back at US 50.
