Texas Roads - US 380 - Brownfield-Wise Co. WB const.

US 380, Brownfield to Wise County WB construction

Photos progress westward and are westbound unless I say otherwise.

Midway through Wise County, the dualization switches sides of US 380, or more accurately, current US 380 switches to become the future EB lanes instead of the future WB lanes.

WB from Decatur (at US 81/287) past the end of the divided roadway to Jacksport, with US 281/TX 114/TX 199 joining for the last photo. I understand that TxDOT doesn't want to have a blank sign up when its weather-related signs (ice?) are folded, but a triangular sign with a bizarre message is rather worse. Also, how wide does a center turn lane need to be? Enough to accommodate three tractor trailers simultaneously? How about a nice 40-foot wide planted median with occasional U-turns?

Looking south at the old truss bridge across the Brazos River west of Newcastle. It has its own page, linked at bottom.

On the south side in Throckmorton, an oldish storefront. On the north side, the Throckmorton County Courthouse, at the northwest corner of US 183/283.

Into Haskell, where US 277 now passes outside town on a new and decorative expressway and US 277 Business has taken over the old route. Typically Texas letters its business routes, but the small designation was left off this sign. The Haskell County Courthouse is on the left.

Looking south on Business US 277, on the left (courthouse) and right (old stores) sides of the road.

The town of Rule, where US 380 meets TX 6.

Leaving US 84 in Post, and then leaving Post entirely, where the sign says one thing but the highway says another.
