Texas Roads - US 66 - Lela

Former US 66, Lela

Buried in the back of Lela is the high school that closed in 1992 due to lack of attendance, sending remaining Lela residents to Shamrock. The sign in front tells an interesting story, and the name of the story is Story. That's what Lela was called when the town was founded in 1902 until this school and the town post office both opened with the name "Lela." No relation to Fry.

EB past a rare state-name shield to exposed original US 66 concrete now serving as the south frontage road.
