Oklahoma Roads - Old OK 18 (US 177/OK 3W) - N. of Pearson

Former OK 18 (now US 177 and OK 3W) north of Pearson

Photos progress southward and face south unless I say "north."

Turning off of US 177/OK 3W, there's a short stub north NB to the Little River where there was once a bridge. You can see the slanted curbs, cast monolithically with the concrete pavement slabs, characteristic of early Oklahoma highway construction.

I bet the construction's over now.

Makes you wonder if these signs were installed when this was still a state highway, or maybe just after it was bypassed. I prefer the former guess.

The house is just as decrepit as those signs. Check out the banking on that curve. You can maintain some serious speed on this backroad - watch for children and pets.

A glance northward over my shoulder.

Crossing Salt Creek. It's like driving through a forest, and not too far away from becoming one.

Most of the road is just concrete, and when there's asphalt, it seems to have been applied very thinly and a long time ago. Given the good concrete condition, the asphalt does more harm than any good it could have done. The last photo is where the old road continued straight across OK 59 at an angle, but traffic has to curve right now and make a left on 59 before turning right to continue on its way.
