New Zealand Roads - Russell Rd.

Russell Road

A collection of old bridges heading north from Helena Bay (Mimiha Stream) past Punaruku to the western reaches of the estuary (3rd bridge), across Kareawhau and Haranui (2 photos) Streams near Tutaematai.

Russell Rd. flows smoothly into Rawhiti Rd., which is where most traffic goes. The original, adventurous, back route into Russell continues the name Russell (or Russell-Whakapara) Rd. down a narrow gravel road through the forest ahead.

There are plenty of sights on the road through the Kauri Forest, full of iconic kauri trees, but the only road-related sight is at the north end of the gravel section. Enjoy some sine salad.

Russell Rd. Non-Roads (oxymoron)
