The first sign off the ferry in Fort Ticonderoga is in the Adirondacks-standard gold and brown, perhaps the only such Welcome sign in the state, and showing its age. The bottom panel once had the governor's name, until the practice was abolished following Mario Cuomo.

How can you have a town inside a forest? That's the best paradox I can come up with on short notice.


I was careful to say "reassurance" and not oldest "shield" in the earlier caption. This I-87 on the WB US 9 junction assembly might stake a claim to the latter, especially with its early-style bent 7.
