New York Roads - Long Island Motor Pkwy. - Queens - E. of Springfield Blvd.

Long Island Motor Parkway
Queens, east of Springfield Blvd.

Continuing east from Springfield Blvd. The guide rail is certainly newer than the Motor Parkway, but since this path has been in the parks system for decades, it could have been installed at any time.

Eastbound through some gentle curves, certainly rounded down from the days of the Parkway, until I end up underneath Grand Central Parkway. It looks like the original concrete "shoulders" (really just the outer pavement, maybe for drainage) may still survive next to the path!

Up to an original underpass with a path underneath that connects to Union Tpk. It does not look like the other concrete overpasses built along the Parkway, so I assume the original bridge was replaced. See the bridges link at bottom to explore this underpass further.

The path ends where the car is parked, but the old Parkway continues up to Winchester Blvd. Parkway right of way is still clear on the other side, but the old overpass was torn out when Winchester Blvd. was widened, so now traffic has to use the sidewalks and crosswalks at grade level.

From the EB side to the WB side, a view of the original (probably dating to 1908!) Parkway concrete cut off at this point. The curb in the last photo (continuing in the next photo run below) is not original, because the original Parkway did not have raised curbs.

Back west to the beginning of the trail. Only on this stub are there still original concrete guiderail posts.

Continuing past the Union Tpk. path and Grand Central Parkway back to Springfield Blvd.
