Long Island Motor Parkway
Nassau County - Manhasset Hills

The Manhasset Hills alignment picks up where the Lake Success alignment left off. After crossing Northern State Parkway near Exit 26, the Motor Parkway comes through the right of way used by the EB ramp to New Hyde Park Rd. SB. It crosses the road and starts following the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) power lines eastward. This arrangement continues with and without pavement in varying conditions out to Shelter Rock Rd., a distance of about a mile. While the way I went had no explicit signs telling me to keep out, exercise due diligence and above all, please do not do anything stupid. It would be unwise to ruin one of the longest stretches of intact original Parkway for future visitors. Access may be easiest from the Shelter Rock Rd. end - park on Links Way and walk north until the power lines, then make a left - but I came in the opposite way, parking on Executive Dr. and entering the Parkway through the back of an condominium complex to the north alog New Hyde Park Rd. You'll recognize the asphalt center with concrete outside right away.

The southern and northern abutments of the Old Court House Road underpass. No one really uses the overpass anymore and it does not appear to have been rehabilitated, so it may not be standing all that much longer. You could cross the top of the bridge, at least on foot if not by car, by turning left from the eastern end of Executive Dr.
