New York Roads - Long Island Motor Pkwy. - Nassau Co. - Lake Success

Long Island Motor Parkway
Nassau County - Lake Success

After following the 74th Ave. right of way on the east side of Queens, the Parkway crosses Northern State Parkway, visible as the curved rear of a synagogue parking lot, and then crosses Lakeville Rd. One of the best-preserved Parkway sections starts right there and runs to the edge of the Northern - then picks up again in Manhasset Hills for another very long and decently preserved stretch. To visit the Lake Success roadway, head north on Lakeville Rd. from Northern State Parkway Exit 25, make the first right on Tanners Rd., then head all the way back to the dead end. Park with discretion, and walk the opposite direction as the gravel path. You'll come out smack in the middle of the old alignment.

Walking east from Old Lakeville Rd. You see a locked fence in the first photo, but the next two sets of gates down the road were both unlocked, so I was able to walk in the back way and snap these photos. The asphalt middle and concrete sides are exactly how the Parkway appeared when it was open, but I'm sure this was repaved more recently given the condition.

Walking west from where I entered the Parkway from the end of Tanners Rd. back to Old Lakeville Rd.

Walking east from the Tanners Rd. area past the track and soccer field to the end of pavement, where the original curbs are once again visible after having been hidden in the vicinity of the trash bins. There's more refuse piled up at the end of the road that ought to be cleared out, and the right of way continues through the trees to Northern State Parkway.

Turning around westward once more and returning to my car on Tanners Rd.
