New York Roads - Long Island Motor Pkwy. - Nassau Co. - Bethpage - Banked curve to Central Av.

Long Island Motor Parkway
Nassau County - Bethpage
From the banked curve to Central Ave.

Looking west at the beginning of the curve. With construction machinery parked right on top of it, I had to sneak in the back way via Herman Ave.

Doesn't look like original concrete, but when it's in the middle of the former roadway, you never know.

The curve has been left au naturel, being in people's backyards along a burgeoning treeline, but the precise banking is remarkably intact. I don't know what the curve radius is, but the highest percentage mentioned anymore is 12% and most states use 6%-8% banking (superelevation), which requires larger radii to maintain the same speeds.

Walking back west toward Herman Ave.

Now continuing eastward once more with intermittent pavement. About at the shoulder of the road is a piece of curb, but since the original highway did not have curb, I don't know why it's there.

Once again, a westbound progression in this area.

The next set of eastbound photos.

Westbound in the same area.

Continuing northward (EB) to the end of the Herman Ave. section, with another chunk of concrete that could be original.

Walking north (eastbound Parkway) from Sophia St. There's not much left here, except assorted concrete pieces.

Walking back south (WB) to Sophia St., with yet another chunk of concrete visible in the last photo.
