NJ 439 Ends

Historic Southern End

Until I-278 was connected to the Goethals Bridge in 1970, 439 went straight onto it from its southern end and ended at the state line in Elizabeth.


East across the bridge to the border where 439 ended.


West from New York into New Jersey where 439 began.


Looking south from Newark Airport at the Goethals Bridge, where 439 ended midspan. The Arthur Kill Vertical Lift (railroad) Bridge is in front.

Southern End

439 ends at Brunswick Ave. (Union CR 616) at the I-278/I-95 (NJ Turnpike) interchange in Elizabeth.


Bayway Ave. west at Bayway, the beginning of 439. The "TO" plaque should only refer to US 1/US 9. Brunswick Ave. continues ahead.


Bayway Ave. east from the end of 439/Bayway, facilitating the connection to 278 east to the Goethals Bridge. 439 originally entered the bridge directly.

Northern End

439 ends at NJ 27 north of downtown Elizabeth.
