New Jersey Roads - Salem CR 678

Salem CR 678, Old Salem Rd.

With a name like Old Salem Rd., and feeding directly into Main St. in Woodstown, it seems like this is either old NJ 45 or the original road that predates it.

Perhaps NJ 45 was realigned in 1951 and the town or county decided they wanted to mark the border. Anyway, these relatively modern posts feature the town name on the town's side of the post - so if you're heading east and see PILESGROVE as the curb begins, you are in fact leaving that town, not entering it.

The county route ends at CR 616 (Bailey St.) with this 1930s AAA sign. "0" distances were popular back then to let you know where to find this town's downtown. Modern signs omit "0" distances, but that's boring.
