New Jersey Roads - Salem CR 607/Old US 130
Salem CR 607, Broad St. in Penns Grove (former US 130)

Penns Grove has not maintained its street signs. Rusted, faded, at least in need of a good coat of paint (since I love embossed signs, please don't replace them). I wanted to use this one north-facing photo and its closeup to show you the typical post they all sit on.

A southbound drive past all the old street blades. I also saw a lot of closed businesses as I drove, a sad note that Penns Grove's heyday is long past.

Between Pearl St. and Railroad Ave., Broad St. crosses Main St., former NJ 48 and original US 40 to the Delaware River ferry. Back when there was a ferry, this was a bank. Now it's about to become The Garden Cafe. Since at least 2008, as far back as Google Street View goes. Sad sign. You'll want to see more of that sign on the right, so do follow the CR 675 link when you get to the end of this page.

I will let you see these ancient NB and SB embossed parking signs on either side of the Main St. intersection. Good luck reading those hours - it's not my camera's fault.

Speaking of old signs, I captured this one at the south end of CR 607 in 2007, when street blades were well painted in white and black. US 130 came from the left on Maple Ave. (now CR 634, which wraps around and comes back to CR 607 on Sixth St.) and turned up Broad St. to head north. The old NJ practice was to use a distance of "0" when you are already in a town to direct you to its downtown, which I kinda wish remained.

I also captured this sign in 2024. No more street blades, but now you get the whole post and you can click for a sign closeup.
