US 223 begins at the last US 23 interchange in Ohio just to claim it's a bi-state route and avoid de-designation, so the first shields are along a multiplex and smaller in size because the route is smaller in importance. It truly has no right to be a US Highway at all.


That said, Blissfield's got old street signs and a cool railroad bridge. (The first bridge isn't quite there yet.)
