This old curve sign is along ME 187 NB at Daniel W. Merritt Elementary School. In this case, NB means "heading east and curving south," not the direction you might think. The route is a loop from US 1, so it takes on US 1's directionality, but an east-west designation would make much more sense, even though a portion around Mason Bay would directly contradict that scheme.


ME 187 reaches its southernmost extent at Jonesport, but I've been following the route northbound to get here.


NB (at least heading east now) over Cross Cove.


At least the first SB shield is actually heading south.
