Bridges of Brandywine Park

Lovering Ave. heading north over a bridle path, then facing west on self-same path.

Bridle path WB and bridge details, then a drainage notch that is no longer so helpful since the ground level has receded.

Heading east from there across the Brandywine Park Swinging Bridge, which dates to 1909.

Back west across the bridge.

From there, the 1910 CSX bridge rises majestically just to the north.

I can also see beyond the stone arches to the 1980 Augustine Bridge, carrying the Augustine Cut-Off and replacing a much older bridge at that spot.

While I'm up here, here are two views from the west shore of Brandywine Creek and two views from the east shore.

The other bridge I can see from the swinging bridge is the 1906 Van Buren St. Bridge. Its original guts have been ripped out but the façade remains period.

Views looking north from the Brandywine Zoo parking lot, then one looking west from Van Buren St. The bridge approach is cobblestone but you'll see the deck is not, part of the rehab.

Walking south across the bridge toward the arch of I-95 overhead.

Northward views from the southwest side of the bridge, featuring a mill race passing underneath the western arch.

Back north, starting at the mill race and ending with the southern parapet.

Looking north from Van Buren St., I can see the Brandywine Creek dam, Swinging Bridge, CSX Bridge, and Augustine Bridge.
