You can see the road was constructed in 1931.


At some point in the 1930s CalTrans (then the Highway Commission) decided to realign the road straighter west of Bankhead Springs, cutting off this curve.


That curve led into this roadway. If you look at the concrete portion of the modern road and the total width of this predecessor, even the newer roadway used the old standard of 10' lanes to which the original pavement was laid.
