California Roads - US 101/CA 1 - Ventura-Santa Barbara

US 101/CA 1, Ventura to Santa Barbara

US 101 was 4 lanes through Oxnard and was built with that cross section exactly to Ventura, where US 101/CA 1 have yet to be widened. The NB lane drop is only awkward if you're following the pavement instead of the lane lines.

NB photos ending on the US 101 NB Exit 66 ramp in Ventura in the last 3 photos. The last 2 (right and left sides) are shared with the CA 126 WB Exit 1A ramp. CA 1 jumped on at Exit 62B while both routes hug the coast together.

SB photos in the same place. Why was everything renamed? I was able to figure out Oxnard Blvd. was Saviers Rd. It was also CA 1 until it was relinquished for a bypass east of Oxnard, although Caltrans has been slow to move 1 over to Rice Ave.

CA 1 gets a rare acknowledgement while concurrent SB, yet is removed at the exit why?

NB and down the Exit 69 ramp.

Under a railroad and up Exit 70 to button copy arrows. Alps sez: Worth taking the exit.

Last set of SB Ventura signs. The second one is courtesy Michael Summa from 1976.

CA 1 exits US 101 for the State Beaches but then comes back by the 3rd photo, so we continue together into Santa Barbara and down the Exit 96 ramp.

NB up to Exit 100, with the last two signs left and right on the same overhead.

SB through Santa Barbara. Castillo St. (Exit 97) intersects Carrillo St. (Exit 98). Slightly confusing.

Last NB exit in the city is now Exit 101, and the last photo is side-mounted button copy at the end of CA 154 SB.

Bonus content from Michael Summa, SB in 1976, before Santa Barbara through Oxnard was fully freeway. There's plenty of work left to get from Los Angeles to San Francisco but all of the traffic signals are now gone.
