I-880 southbound, Exits 22-1

See how Fremont Blvd. becomes Fremont Blvd. (North)? It doesn't go north here. It ends here and Alvarado Blvd. goes north. Are we confused yet?

Auto Mall Pkwy. was once the western part of Durham Rd. The newer signs don't need to be patched, but exit distance signs seem to stick around longer. You may have noticed the "(South)" patch on the 3rd exit distance sign in this run. That helps to unconfuse from Exit 22; there are two Fremont Blvd. exits, so one is now labeled the North exit and one labeled the South exit. In other places where freeways have more than one exit to a parallel road, such as every other state in the Union, they use this thing called "Exit Numbers" to differentiate in a less confusing manner. I hear Caltrans is picking up on that, but judging from the exactly one sign using them in this photo run, they have a lot of work to do.

Skipping a bit due to lack of button copy, I end approaching Exit 8A for Great Mall Pkwy., which moved closer so that it could take off prior to the ramp merge from CA 237.

Remaining button copy in the remaining daylight, down the Exit 1B ramp in the last photo. The last two photos before that (in flash) are left and right on the same gantry. I-880 ends here and resumes being CA 17, the number that the whole Interstate had prior to 1984 when it was decided to add the shiny red and blue shields to several freeways but not others (US 101 for example).
