California Roads - I-210 WB - 2

, Exit 24 and west

Photos were taken into the sun. I did the best I could.

The last two photos are on the Exit 22A ramp and courtesy Kelly W. The first photo is situated high up above the onramp from CA 134 EB, as the mainline from secret CA 710 (Del Mar and California Blvds., one day potentially connected to I-710) is on the left and I-210 WB, which I'm on, comes in on the right as a ramp.

Caltrans gets tricky, and I actually like it - although CA 2 North should be listed above South for parallel wording, there's enough context provided as shown and it cuts down on sign width. However, CA 2 is an east-west road, so Caltrans outsmarted themselves on this one. The reason there's a "maximum speed" sign instead of a "speed limit" is that based on an engineering study, traffic could actually travel faster than 65 mph safely, but the state has set a statutory cap. How advanced, a state that only signs speed limits at the proper engineering-based speeds!

I-210 is on a diagonal in this area thanks to a very unusual street grid in La Crescenta-Montrose: North-south streets are crossed by NW-SE streets instead of east-west streets, meaning a lot of 45 and 135 degree angles.

Sunland seems like a very apropos name as I drive through this area.

Some shots of the Verdugo Mountains.

The last photo is on the Exit 8 ramp; the sudden appearance of Foothill Blvd. seems confusing to me, so it must confuse other drivers as well. Actually, Foothill Blvd. and Osborne St. multiplex for about a mile, if street names can be said to do that, but then both of them should have been on the advance signs.

The last two photos are the left and right sides of the same gantry. I didn't want to reduce the size of my button copy.

I-210 WB merges into I-5 NB at the last photo, and there's a separate truck roadway from here north to CA 14. That's actually the original US 99 routing that became I-5, and capacity was added by constructing a new roadway and making it cars only. However, technically, I've read that cars are allowed on the truck roadway if they disobey the "ONLY."
