California Roads - I-110 SB

On the shared I-10 onramp and Exit 20C (Adams Blvd.) offramp.

The exit signs have obviously been replaced, because they're not patched like the median distance sign. The old name for this part of MLK, Jr. Blvd. was Santa Barbara Blvd.

Wouldn't a regular size arrow fit on this sign?

If you've ever heard the joke about the Slauson Cutoff, you won't take this exit.

Manchester Ave. BGS's still have room for the CA 42 shield that was once there. On other freeways, it's still there, despite having been decommissioned in 2000.

First, let me say I love those narrow carpool lane shields, both with state name and with button copy. Second, let me say that does NOT include the set on the overhead BWS's (big white signs). Finally, let me say that the last three photos are all on the same gigantic gantry.

A ground view of the interchange you saw from the air on the main I-110 page, and then once again, the left and right sides of the gantry are split into 2 photos. Five levels sure look tall, eh?

The second photo is on the Exit 14A ramp, which occupies a low level in the stack.

The only sign old enough to have read Artesia Blvd. before it was renamed to Redondo Beach.

The last two photos are on the left and right of the same gantry. CA 91 ends at Vermont Ave. just west of the interchange, so the "West" shouldn't be on the sign at all. However, signage is probably reflecting the onetime planned extension to the never-built Pacific Coast Freeway, which would likely have been CA 1.

The last photo is on the Exit 10 ramp. (Exit 10? Where?)

And... the last photo is on the Exit 9 ramp.

Signs on the onramp from both directions of CA 91, blending with Exit 9 traffic from I-110.

The last photo is on the Exit 4 (CA 1) ramp.

So many failures on the new signage. The shape of the CA spade, the alignment of "NORTH" and "¼", failure to increase the size of the "N" to emphasize the direction, improper spacing of "LongBeach", placement of the exit number INSIDE the sign instead of on top of it, white border inset from the edge, improper corner radius... you get the idea. I design signs for a living, so that makes it all the more painful. The shield to the left redeems the photo, though I could fault the numerals for being too small and the "South" plaque for being below the shield instead of above. (It was made before the larger "S" was mandated, so I won't count that as a strike.)

Given that the freeway turns into a surface road in San Pedro (which has been part of L.A. since 1909, but whatever), the shield should be CA 110, not I-110.
