California Roads - I-110 NB

I-110 northbound

Photos were taken while traveling southbound, so they're all at angles. Some still came out well, at least.

It surprises me every time I see an ugly shield shape on an old sign. I thought no one made mistakes with button copy!

The last two photos are on the left and right of the same gantry.

And this is on the ramp for that same interchange.

Once again, the last two photos are on the same gantry. I find it peculiar that signs explicitly mention CA 91 West, when it ends just to the west at the next cross street (end of the freeway). Yes, it was planned for something more, but usually when a route ends in 500 feet and the extension is cancelled, something is done to cover up the signs referring to it continuing.

The last two signs are on the Exit 14B ramp, thus telling you what Exit 14B is, because Caltrans hasn't gotten around to that yet. Then again, with thousands upon thousands of non-reflective button copy signs remaining around the state, they tend to not get around to a whole lot when it comes to signs.

But hey, I can't complain about button copy. Besides the fact that I love it, it leaves some cool scars, like the ghost of CA 42 on Manchester Ave. CA 42 was removed when I-105 was completed, and had been internally redesignated CA 105 for a time before that, but most intersecting freeways have never removed or patched over the 42 symbol. I definitely prefer the removal option - much more visible.

Sorry about the terrible resolution in those last two photos. Not. They're on the same gantry. As I mentioned on the main page, the CA 110 shields are covering up 11's. Since this is button copy, why not just move the two 1's over in the shield and add a 0?

Ramp signs on the I-10 exit, which is now Exit 21.
