Once CA 58 EB departs to join CA 99 SB, CA 178 officially begins and heads east into Bakersfield across the Kern River. This was supposed to be a freeway interchange once upon a time, but it was never finished north of downtown and now the freeway picks up at CA 204 just over a mile east.


I will note that technically, the last sign is on CA 58 WB, which has just exited CA 99 NB, but its messaging is geared toward CA 178.
