California Roads - CA 118 EB

CA 118 eastbound

CA 118 turns left at Santa Clara Ave.

There will be no more turning left, because CA 118 joins the freeway here as CA 23 leaves it. (What did that CA 118 shield eat to get so bloated?) That unusual arrangement is due to the abandoned plans to extend the CA 118 freeway west to Ventura. The freeway bends immediately to the east with a wide median, perfect for a wye interchange.

This arrangement looks almost exactly like Illinois would do it - California usually separates the sign at the exit from everything else.

This is the Ronald Reagan Freeway (you'll see later on this page), so guess whose library is off Exit 22 (Madera Rd.)?

Buried in these photos is the transition from the white boxy gantries to the skeletal metal ones. The arrows in the last photo are exactly how the MUTCD doesn't want agencies to do it. If the right lane is truly under the right arrow, then the sign should be longer. If not, the arrow should be on the right side of the sign.

The last photo is on the Exit 42 ramp.

Why does the Ronald Reagan sign come all the way at this end of the road?
