California Roads - CA 1 - Tomales & N.

Tomales and north
Can't avoid wide shields even up north.

All photos are northbound until the very end.

The old gas pump is unsurprisingly close to Tomales' history museum. The following sign is at Valley Ford Rd.

Up to Meyers Grade Rd.

Across Schooner Gulch to School St. in Point Arena, there's yet another wide sign (just like the header photo), and the corresponding SB assembly has one as well.

The 1938 Garcia River bridge.

First across Brush Creek, then across the Navarro River, looking east and west (featuring CA 1 to the right) in the last two respective photos.

CA 1 meets CA 128 at the north end of the bridge.

Four photos, three bridges: Salmon Creek (really the confluence of Little Salmon and Big Salmon Creeks, but I'm not sure what governs), Albion River, 2 at Little River.

The next photos feature two more gulches, Jack Peters and (2 photos) Russian Gulch. That's 3 gulches on this page so far and (checking my captions) 3 total for the route. They're just all right here.

I am disappointed that the left turn to Jughandle State Reserve doesn't require taking a ramp to the right to cross over.

After crossing Hare Creek, CA 20 begins to the right but CA 1 does not turn despite the sign.

Redwood Ave. WB in Fort Bragg, odd shield out in header photo consideration.

As I cross Pudding Creek on CA 1, I'm gazing at the 10 Mile Railroad bridge to the west. The railroad operated from 1915-1949 to haul wood to Fort Bragg, and itself is made of wood. It's now a trail, but since the best part's below the deck, I don't feel like I failed you by not walking it.

Before CA 1 ends, it offers one more cool 1934 bridge over South Fork Eel River.

Here's a SB photo, so based on my initial statement at top I must be at the end of the road.

Services ramed in button copy? New to me. It's below the first sign at the north end of CA 271 (old US 101), which leads to the road that actually goes under the tree. Despite signage, this is not that road.

And there's your end, of course in delicious button copy like so much of the rest of the route.

CA 1 SB begins.
