New Jersey - Nita Strauss

Nita Strauss at Starland Ballroom, 11/17/23

Last person out is always the star of the show, and here Nita is rocking away on lead guitar.

To the left, Katt Scarlett wo-mans the keyboard and Christopher Dean is bassist for the tour.

To the right, Johnny Young supports Nita on guitar for the tour, and Josh Villalta is future Mr. Strauss on drums.

You tell me, do Nita and Josh make the better couple, or do Katt and Nita? Doesn't matter, as the three of them form the musical arrangement on their latest album (The Call of the Void).

Some views of the band (3rd and 4th photos are a left/right pair), some views of the Nita.

Possibly my clearest individual photos came all in the middle of the set.

Clear enough that I was able to snag these details of Johnny's and Christopher's tattoos, respectively.

Hoo is that on Christopher's shirt? I find out the owl is named Beverly Kills. Or, I suppose, just Beverly, since owls are hunters after all.

The first few songs were all instrumentals, which is Nita's forte. Although she seems to have a fine voice, she prefers to bring in a vocalist for album and tour lyrics. Tonight's representative is Kasey Karlsen of Deadlands, paired with various band members and then on her own. Click on the last photo for a closeup to see her hair shine purple, skin shine through her jeans, and shirt that reads "Dead Inside" even though that's not her band name. Got me going for a spell.

A couple of songs later, the band then got going, even as I shouted for one more song (or twelve. Could've played the entire discography and shut out the next band). This performance will live on in my memory, and now you got to see what I saw.

Bonus: My prize for attending.
