California - US 66 - E. of Barstow

Former US 66 east of Barstow

The north side of the road leaving Barstow.

Switching to the south side of the road for a bit.

Returning to the north side after a 10-minute hiatus, and then a trip through the lava fields that flowed west from Pisgah Crater.

Out of the fields, looking north.

Looking south at the actual crater area.

Scenery to the north.

And to the south once more.

All on the north side of the road as I continue through Ludlow. The last five photos are a panorama and closeups of the same scene less than 5 minutes east of Ludlow.

Just before the "desert rocks" section (see link at bottom) where people leave their names in rocks at the roadside.

Past the rocks and then onto Goffs Road, which is the oldest branch of US 66 nearing Needles. Continuing straight on National Trails Highway is the newer alignment that leads straight into 66's replacement, Interstate 40.

One last look northward from there.
