Wisconsin Roads

All photos from this state are courtesy Scott Colbert or Doug Kerr, unless I say they're 1986 photos from Michael Summa. For example, the header photo above is one of Michael's, on US 51 NB (so I don't know what the "48" means).

WI likes putting all plates on a single sign. Maybe county routes don't get directional plates, though. In the last photo, that's not an old WIS 136 shield, just a new one trying to emulate old standards. Look closely at the COUNTY shield, and notice how in WI, the top and bottom borders are thick (in order to square out the shield). These three photos are courtesy Scott Colbert.

WI 100 NB and SB, respectively, at North Ave. in Milwaukee. WI 100 is old US 45, and thus it parallels it quite closely and even eventually joins it. With that many options, it makes sense to have arrows to tell you the best way.
WI 60 westbound past a unique shield (well, there are more of them in the state, but no other route has one like this) to the amusement of redundancy. The top one is incandescent and the bottom one is LED - that way everyone can see at least one hand (what other reason could there possibly be?).
