Pennsylvania Roads - I-95

US 322 just merged with SB I-95, and here it goes leaving again. Note the diagrammatic, needed because Exit 3B is about 50 feet before Exit 3A (if a driver slows to make the loop and someone's going straight through on 322, there's trouble).

Bethel Rd. WB, which is the on-ramp from Chester, US 322 EB, and US 13 in the vicinity of Exit 3.

Northbound, the sign showing how quickly US 322 enters and leaves I-95. It's worse northbound because 322 comes in from the left but leaves from the right.

On all three signs, the words TOLL BRIDGE have been greened out because the tolls are now one-way into PA. Since these signs look pretty new, I'm guessing that it was a contractor error or a changed decision on PennDOT's part.

A two-shield assembly even manages to squeeze its way into the short duplex.

Different ways of signing Interstates courtesy Doug Kerr, one normal (SB), one not-so-normal (NB). Because the Schuylkill Expressway is so ancient, when I-95 was finally pushed through underneath it, there wasn't room for an interchange, so traffic uses local roads for all movements not involving the Walt Whitman Bridge. Exit 11 is actually Exit 14, and PA 291 crosses the Platt Bridge on its way toward I-76 (thanks to Jim Dietrich for the information).

A little SB button copy, courtesy Lou Corsaro.

And a little NB button copy, albeit at night. You can pretty much make out what's on the Exit 13 ramp photo, though.

Northbound onto and over the lower level of the Girard Point Bridge.

Northbound at the Walt Whitman Bridge, I-76.

Now up to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, US 30. (It's signed as if it connects I-676 between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but in reality Pennsylvania's legislated Interstate ends just ahead at I-95, since the Ben Franklin connectors involve surface streets and traffic signals. New Jersey's I-676 begins at the state line on this bridge.)

NB, second photo courtesy Doug Kerr, last two photos on the ramp. NJ 90 is signed on the PA side because the Betsy Ross doesn't have an external number - it's probably a 4dsr, though (those sometimes appear on little white signs). Still, PA didn't have to go the extra mile and stick the black square on the back of the circle shield. A nice touch.

Like RIDOT, sometimes PennDOT doesn't always take down the things it replaces. In this case, the second BGS (NB) is definitely button-copy, while the first one (SB) probably isn't but still spells out the name of the route. Both lack exit numbers, and are clearly smaller than needed. These are both courtesy Doug Kerr.

Half of the SB sign for Exit 32 - I never seem to catch this one quite right, but it still might be there for another try.
