Close to the NY border.

The next signs date from the construction of the highway through Harrisburg. Note the centered exit tabs and nonreflective signs. Also note the shiny new exit numbers patched on and the OLD EXIT signs - follow the I-78 link at the bottom of the page and scroll down for an explanation. What's covered over on the Front Street BGS are yellow EXIT and ONLY plates.


What is the Exit 67 photo doing way up here? It was taken pre-renumbering; it's now Exit 223 and has probably been patched over (as opposed to replaced). All three photos courtesy Doug Kerr.


All courtesy "Roadgeek9", with the new exit numbers obvious over the originals. First photo, it's a beautiful state-name shield, but in the wrong place. The exit is for PA 315 South, and I-81 obviously continues on its alignment without having a numbered exit from itself. Second photo, the BGS Turnpike shields should be black-on-white, and this is a standalone shield patched into the wrong assignment. Third photo, the sign is almost perfect, but apparently the original sign forgot to hyphenate Wilkes-Barre.


Old and then wrong - as the next sign down the exit ramp tells you, to the right is Business PA 309 (admittedly, it is the original routing of 309 itself).

Only the last one out of all these isn't button copy, but it sure looks strange. The lower-case letters are too short - they should be 2/3 or so of the capital letters, not just half.
