Pennsylvania Roads - I-279/US 22/US 30

All photos on this page are courtesy John Krakoff, passed along to me by Adam Prince.

The first photo northbound (eastbound on the two US highways), not a special sign when it was created, but the existence of two separate patches with different fonts elevates it to the status of page-worthy.

Original NB button copy. The US routes don't leave until US 22/30 (Exit 6/I-376), so they should be on this sign. What, you say, this is Exit 7A? Isn't 7 north of 6? Yes, 7 is north of 6, but this isn't 7 at all. Click for the renumbering of this sign - mystery solved! Too bad I don't have the original version of the distance sign.

Southbound as a standalone route, with the same mysterious patch job. The strange thing is, as new as these signs are, even those with button copy, they all use the old sequential exit numbering scheme. (Well, as you can see from the I-579 shield, that's not the only thing wrong.) These should now be 8A, 7B, and 7A. When a highway has several A, B, and C exits in a row (4-8 all have at least two lettered exits), you know it has been around a long time.
Final footnote: With PA 60 complete as a (tolled) freeway all the way north to I-80, I-376 will be extended along it, around the airport, to I-76, causing a great renumbering of exits on more than one highway. I-279 up to Exit 6 will become I-376, meaning that no longer will there be the triplex shown in the photo atop this page.
Onto I-376 (with US 22/30)
Onto US 22 alone
Onto US 30 alone
