Ontario Roads - County/Regional Roads

County and Regional Roads

All photos courtesy Doug Kerr except the nighttime one.

While the general shape is uniform, there's not much else in common with various regions'/counties' route signage. Niagara may be the only region (or county) to use a blue background.

You wouldn't see this in Boston. This is actually a road named after Canadians who fought on the side of the British during the American Revolution to keep Canada part of the Crown. Now, I imagine in general Canadians were not involved in the Revolution, but rather the Loyalists helped keep them out of it. Still, somewhat disturbing from this American's point of view.

To County or not to County? These signs have it out with each other, though my vote lies with the one that's not part of an LGS. As you'll see on the CR 29 shields below, there's also a conflict between to County or to Counties. (Chris Bessert votes for Counties, on the grounds that they were each individual once, but I argue that they gave that up upon merging.)

Many downgraded CR's/RR's still have the ON Highway shields up. This is a nice compromise, though like FORMER exit tabs in Pennsylvania, it's temporary. The second photo was taken by me, on CR 29 southbound nearing CR 2 (former Highway 2). There is a brief one-way pair in downtown Brockville, and this is where one can continue from William Street onto Wall Street and head back north again.
