New York Roads - Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge
Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge
Walkway Over the Hudson
The main attraction of the October 3, 2009 Highland Road Meet was not even a road at all, nor has it ever been. Cars (such as emergency personnel) can indeed drive across what is now a pedestrian bridge, though. The meet walked onto the bridge at the first possible moment, and met the parade from the Poughkeepsie side roughly a third of the way through. Photos and narrative (and a video!) continue on two pages:
West of the midpoint
East of the midpoint
All I could see from the ground on Friday night after the fireworks ended. This is the tail end of the opening day festivities, a display of bulbous lanterns at designated points in the middle of the bridge. Some sort of lighting extends partway down the bridge pier, and as a police vehicle makes its way slowly across, time lapse photography reveals an intricate pattern of red and blue lights.
