New York Roads - Belt Pkwy. EB

Belt Parkway eastbound

The Verrazano Narrows Bridge soars overhead, and a modern version of the circular bridge shield makes an appearance.

The third and sixth photos are courtesy Mike Byrnes, replacing my sunward versions.

Pardon the sun glare and blurry Marine Parkway Bridge photos, but these were taken in early morning. I had to throw a few photos out that were completely illegible, so the Exit 17/Exit 19 "½ mile" and the Exit 19 "right lane" signs are courtesy Mike Byrnes. Check out the Exit 19 signs in particular - you can see the outline of I-78 behind the NY 878 shield! (That makes the sign at least 40 years old.) Also, on the Exit 17 sign, there's a strange arrow and evidence that this was once Exit 17S, but the tight Exit 17N loop was subsequently eliminated. You can also click on the Exit 13 photo for a closeup of the left sign for Pennsylvania Ave. from Mike. (If you're not sure, just keep clicking, you'll find it.) The last photo (Belt Pkwy., Eastern L I and So Conduit Ave) is on the end of JFK Expressway, a connector out of that airport.

Take the Exit 19 ramp. That's not even an "if," because you want to see more button copy with I-78 ghost shields. Lefferts Blvd. appears to have been extended over 119th St.

Appropriately, the Sunrise Highway photos are affected by the Sunrise, but I was able to replace two out of the three before even updating the page. The Exit 22/Exit 23B "1 mile" photo is courtesy Mike Byrnes.

Numbering continues straight onto Cross Island Parkway (Exit 25B is actually on the Cross Island after it leaves the Belt), which is why that's not an exit. Funny thing is, if you follow the Cross Island, it'll loop back around to I-678, meaning you just went at least 10 miles out of your way. But that's what the Belt system does - the Cross Island is part of the system in numbering, just not in name. Exit 25A is actually a three-way fully directional interchange between the Cross Island, Belt, and Southern State Parkways, which all end at each other.
