North Carolina Roads - Elwell Ferry

Coming northbound to the ferry, and as Lou boards, looking back at the combination wood and asphalt ramp. I'm sure it was once all wood, but I don't see what purpose it serves still being in there.

Across the ferry, which still uses a tow cable to guide it across the Cape Fear River. The ferry boat doesn't have steering or brakes, but it's never had a serious crash, so credit goes to the operators.

The north end of the ferry road, which this assembly tells you is State Road 1730 (county/secondary route). Side road signs have looked like this for many decades, long before guide signs developed green backgrounds.
