Maryland Roads - MD 856

MD 856

MD 298 EB curves northward just after MD 561 in Lynch, leaving an unassuming, more sharply curved original concrete alignment to disintegrate, basically just an offshoot of someone's driveway with no real purpose other than utility pole access. For some reason, though, it remains connected to MD 298 on both sides and technically open to traffic. Because no one would want to assume maintenance of such a pointless road, it stayed with the state, who assigned it MD 856. This is the entire route, a 10-foot wide strip of pavement that was once as much pavement as MD would put down for its state highways (figuring that if two cars need to pass, they can have one bicycle-style wheel in the graded gravel on either side).
