Indiana

First photo: I-275 is a three-state loop around Cincinnati, OH (click to follow into that state). It barely touches Indiana, but this happens to be a southbound exit in this very state, courtesy H.B. Elkins. South will become east in Kentucky. Second photo: Southbound just across the Michigan border in 1979, courtesy Michael Summa.

Harrison Bridge EB in Lafayette, taken in 2000 before US 231 was removed from the bridge, courtesy Bill Donovan. Afterward, the sign remained but the shield was pried off. Bill offered me both versions, but I think this suffices. Just remove the shield with your mind or with Photoshop (or generic equivalent, if that's what your HMO supports).

Another Bill Donovan photo, the backs of the signs on Business US 24 (former mainline) at US 31, in Peru. The new Grissom sign says Aeroplex instead of AFB, because the Air Force no longer uses the facility. Apparently, as these signs became worn (they both appear to have been white on green, but they could have been black on white), Indiana just flipped them over, applied a reflective backing, and pronounced them new. Not a bad strategy to conserve on sign waste.
